I mentioned to Halle, my 16 year old daughter, how difficult it was to motivate and inspire people to donate to the arts. With all the causes and suffering in the world - it's hard for people to focus on the good and positive. It's difficult to get them to support something beautiful and lovely.
She said she would help with a letter.
This is her letter - I think she's got it just about right.
We are made up of many things, the complex systems in our body, the maze of veins and intricate sculpture of bone. That, in a way, is what makes us human. It is our physical existence. Though I must ask you, dear reader, is that all? I believe we are made up of more. Our feelings and emotions, an entire sea of this within us and we have found the key to express them, to show that beneath our human figures, there lies the epicenter of what really makes us alive. The arts.
The power to express that which is too complex to be explained, and with power comes responsibility. The artistic drive within us gives ourselves purpose and we must defend it. We must keep these means to create feeling alive!
Through the years, memories and traditions of infinite amounts have been created in the theater, behind the camera. Childhood highlights have been based off the excitement of these events. Going to a movie or watching a performance. We are striving to keep the beauty of these moments strong.
Man has stood his ground for the freedom to exist through art. The torch has been passed down through our ancestors and now we must take hold. Keep the dreams alive! Help us bring light to the darkened places of our world and ourselves! Light the beacons! Spread the word! A whisper among silence is more than nothing at all.
All I ask is for you, all of you to take the time and give a little. Show you care. A small favor that will grow to something great if everyone pitches in. Please, dear reader, don’t let the arts die.
Sincerely,
Halle Honour Holmes
